Effect of Amino Acid, Purine, and Pyrimidine Analogues on Activation of Corneal Stromal Cells to take up Neutral Red

VIRGINIA WEIMAR 1

1 Department of Ophthalmology, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University New York, N. Y.; Present address: University of Oregon Medical School, Portland 1, Ore.

Amino acid analogues and purine and pyrimidine analogues which interfere with protein and/or ribonucleic acid synthesis completely suppress the activation of corneal stromal cells to take up neutral red. The corneal epithelium exerts a pronounced protective effect against the inhibitory action of the analogues.
