Theory and Calibration of the Schiøtz Tonometer

IV. A Mathematical Model of Schiotz Tonometry Scale Reading and tonometric Pressure

ROBERT A. MOSES 1

1 Department of Ophthalmology, Washington University School of Medicine, 660 South Euclid, Saint Louis, Mo. 63110

A geometrical model of the Schiøtz tonometer indentation is proposed. Calculations based on the model predict relationships of scale reading to tonometric pressure, plunger weight, and radius of corneal curvature. Change of the general pattern of the relationships at low-scale readings is discussed.

Key Words: scale reading • tonometric pressure • plunger weight • corneal curvature
