Cover: Expression of MMP-14 (green) in the transacted rat optic nerve primed for regeneration by injection of chicken neural tube-derived stem cells. MMP-14 expression colocalizes with GFAP-positive cells (red). MMP-14 plays an important role in the regeneration of the optic nerve by activating MMP-2, which digests CSPG, a regeneration inhibiting molecule of the extracellular matrix of the CNS.
